Samsung Enters Mass Production for World’s First 16Gb 10nm Mobile DRAM
September 01, 2020

Samsung recently announced that the company has kicked off the mass production for the world’s first 16Gb LPDDR5 (Fifth Generation Low Power Double Data Rate) mobile DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) using EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet) technology, Maeil Business News Korea reported on August 31. Built on 10nm process, the new DRAM is the world’s first to support EUV technology that promises the highest speed, performance, and capacity compared to today’s mobile devices. Meanwhile, the new 16Gb LPDDR5 is about 16% faster than 12Gb one launched in August last year and is able to transfer about 10 5GB full-HD movies in one second. On top of that, with 30% thinner compact design, the LPDD5 package enables 5G smartphones and other advanced digital devices to consolidate more functions into one. The new DRAM designed and optimized for 5G and AI features in future smartphones will be produced at Samsung’s second production line in Pyeongtaek, Korea. With the area of 128.900 square meters, this new Pyeongtaek production line boasts to be the world’s largest semiconductor production line to date.
