Chunghwa Telecom, ASE, Qualcomm to Jointly Build the first 5GmmWave Smart Factory in Taiwan
August 20, 2020

The Taiwanese government recently announced that it has facilitated Taiwan telecom operator CHT (Chunghwa Telecom), semiconductor company ASE Group, and Qualcomm to establish Taiwan’s first 5GmmWave smart factory in Kaohsiung, Southern Taiwan, the Central News Agency reported on August 18. The factory, to be built at ASE’s plant in Kaohsiung, is slated for completion by the end of 2020. Under the tie-up, CHT will offer 600MHz bandwidths at 28GHz 5G band while Qualcomm will provide technical support and integrated solutions to encourage more Taiwan-based makers to develop 5G mmWave network-related equipment such as small cell base stations by eliminating compatibility issues. The joint efforts aims to bring AI + AGV (automated guided vehicles) smart transportation, remote AR collaborative efforts and related AR experimental environments developed at ASE's Green Technology Education Center to this new factory. With the tripartite collaborative efforts, this new factory strives to speed up the development of 5G mmWave in Taiwan with improved efficiency brought by smart manufacturing.
