China’s Netizen Population Tops 904 Million as of March 31, 2020

The number of China’s netizen population reach 904 million by the end of March 2020, up 75.08 million over the past three months, the Commercial Daily News reported on April 29 according to an official report released by the CNNIC (China Internet Network Information Center). The internet penetration in China reaches 64.5% in 2019, up 4.9 percentage points from 2018. The number of netizens accessing the internet through mobile phones in China increased to 879 million as of March 31 this year, accounting for 99.3% of the total internet access in China. Meanwhile, the share of China’s netizens accessing the internet through desktop PCs, notebook PCs, TVs, and tablets, took up 42.7%, 35.1%, 32%, and 29%, respectively. While over 90% of China’s netizens preferred internet access through mobile phones, the proportions of Taiwanese netizens accessing the internet through PCs and mobile phones were equally the same in 2019, according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a government think tank and IT research institute in Taiwan.
