Following Foxconn’s cooperation with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Taiwan’s Delta Electronics recently also announced its plan to team up with UK-based GKN Automotive, the world’s largest supplier of eDrive solutions, to jointly accelerate the development of power systems for EVs, the Central News Agency reported on January 20. This tie-up will help GKH Automotive’s car manufacturing clients who are set to launch a number of EVs to meet tougher emission targets from the EU this year. Both parties will each invest about 100 million pounds (US$129.9 million; US$1= 0.77 Pounds) a year in developing standardized eDrive solutions for the next generation EVs and 3-in-1 eDrive solutions which combine EV, gearbox, and power electronics into one to reduce cost and weight for carmakers. Other than GKH Automotive, Bosch and ZF of Germany have also their own eDrive solutions. Delta sells components for EVs and hybrid vehicles such as on-board chargers and charging systems.
