China’s MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) recently announced that China will continue to promote 5G network deployment with an aim to install 400,000 base stations in all prefecture-level cities by the end of 2020, the Economic Daily reported on December 27. Since China kicked off 5G commercial services in November 2019, there are already 126,000 base stations installed across China and are expected to reach 400,000 base stations by 2020. Shenzhen city has the highest density of 5G base stations in China and has plans to increase the number of 5G base stations from 15,000 to 45,000 by the August 2020. On top of that, the MIIT predicts that industrial IoT (Internet of Things) will be major 5G applications to account for 80% of the total 5G revenues by 2035.
