Taiwan’s Total 5G Auction Bids to Top US$1.67 Billion within 10 Days
December 25, 2019

The total bids for Taiwan’s 5G spectrum auction topped NT$54.6 billion (US$1.85 billion; US$1 = NT$29.5) as the auction entered its tenth day, breaking the goal set by the Legislative Yuan of Taiwan, the Central News Agency reported on December 23. As a result, the NCC (National Communications Commission) has also implemented a mechanism to expedite the auction on December 24. The mechanism is reportedly to motivate telecoms to concentrate on the spectrum and bandwidth they need thus speed up their bid speed with an aim to complete the auction within next two weeks. Meanwhile, the Commission has set the floor price at NT$30 billion (US$1.02 billion). Thus far, there are a total of NT$1.3 billion (US$43.3 million) bids for a bandwidth of 2.8GHz, while a bandwidth of 1.8GHz is yet to attract any bids.
