China Mobile to Launch 5G+ Service in More than 40 China Cities by September This Year

China Mobile recently released a report that the company plans to launch a new 5G+ service with an aim to cover more than 40 cities in China by the end of September 2019, the United Daily News reported on June 21. The new service enables phone users to switch between 4G and 5G networks without having to change cards or phone numbers. In addition, China Mobile aims to deploy over 50,000 5G base stations in China by the end of this year while expanding 5G commercial services to all prefecture-level and above cities by 2020. On top of that, China’s MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) officially issued licenses to launch 5G commercial networks, slated for commercialization by 2020. According to GSM Association, 24 markets in the Asia Pacific are expected to launch 5G service by 2025 and 28% of mobile connections in China will be based on 5G networks by then.
