Chunghwa Telecom Aims for 2.25 Million Subscribers by End of 2019
May 03, 2019

Taiwan’s major telecom operator Chunghwa Telecom recently announced that the company aims to increase its MOD (Multimedia-on-demand) subscribers to 2.25 million, growing by 10% compared to 2018, the Economic Daily News reported on April 30. On January 23 this year, the NCC (National Communications Commission) has relaxed the rules by allowing Chunghwa Telecom to control what contents it can put on its own MOD channels. This has given MOD businesses a more favorable environment. In addition, the company has teamed up with Netflix. The company’s MOD business added 72,000 subscribers in 2018 along, up from 1.3 million at the end of 2017. To boost its revenue, the company has also added smart speaker services to extend reach to smart home and AI services with an aim to enhance user experience and customer retention.
