Following its success move to break into Verizon's and Swisscom AG's supply chains, Wistron NeWeb recently announced that it has also succeeded in joining hands with Qualcomm to tap the 5G IoV (Internet of Vehicle) market demand, the Economic Daily News reported on December 16. Wistron expects its automotive C-V2X module and mPCIe card  both integrated with the Qualcomm 9150 C-V2X chipset solution to begin sample shipments in December 2018 with volume production scheduled to begin in 2Q 2019. At present, Wistron NeWeb's 5G automotive products, including the C-V2X chipset-integrated module, have been supplied for V2I (Vehicle-to-Infrastructure), I2V (Infrastructure-to-Vehicle), and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) field trials. Moreover, the company has been actively cooperating with automakers and ecosystem operators in China to deploy products based on the C-V2X chip solution for vehicles and roadside equipment to be launched in the future. The C-V2X is the only V2X technology that Qualcomm designs dedicatedly for 5G NR (New Radio) to support autonomous driving. Thus far, Wistron NeWeb has separately cooperated with Qualcomm, Ericsson, and Swisscom AG to conduct 5G field trials, while using Qualcomm chips to build 5G CPE (Customer Premise Equipment). On top of that, the company will become one of the first batch of 5G commercial network equipment suppliers for Swisscom AG in 2019.
