French automaker Renault recently signed an agreement with Chinese automaker Brilliance Auto and Shenyang municipal government of China to jointly launch seven LCVs (Light Commercial Vehicles), including three electric LCVs, in China over the next three years, the China Economic Net reported on October 18. Pursuant to the agreement, they will manufacture these LCV models at a plant of Jinbei Automotive - a joint venture between Brilliance Auto and Renault - in northeastern Liaoning province of China, starting in early 2019. In addition, they also agreed to set up a R&D center for LCVs in Shenyang, capital city of Liaoning Province. Liaoning Province is one of China’s industrial hubs for automobiles and already has more than 120 automakers and auto part suppliers located there. Set up in December 2017, Jinbei Automotive strives to manufacture and sell 15,000 LCVs by 2022. Other than Renault, German automaker BMW also invested more than 3 billion Euros (USD 3.5 billion) into BMW Brilliance Automotive, a JV between BMW and Brilliance in Shenyang, to boost itsR&D capability for LCVs in the coming years.
