Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications recently announced that it has collaborated with Chunghwa Telecom in developing a new mobile app platform, named UMAJI, for tourism from which they expect to generate NTD 1 billion (USD 32.5 million; USD 1=NTD 30.8) revenue over the next five years, the Economic Daily News reported on October 17. To boost Taiwan's tourism, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications have allocated USD 2.6 million (NTD 80 million) for the platform over the next two years. The platform is the first platform in Asia offering local tourism, mobile payment, point collection, and online verification services. The platform currently has 7,000 subscribers and 300 business partners and expects to increase to 20,000 and 50,000 subscribers by the end of 2018 and 2019, respectively. In addition, the UMAJI aims to extend its business coverage to other countries such as Japan, Korea, and some English speaking countries while combining with the Taiwan Pass, Taiwan's first domestic travel pass, and its subordinated mobile payment brand, Hami Pay.
