BYD and Baidu to Jointly Mass Produce Autonomous Vehicles by 2021

BYD announced on August 9 that it has cooperated with Baidu to jointly mass produce autonomous vehicles by 2021 the China Times reported on September 6. Under the cooperation, Baidu will provide Baidu Map for BYD's entire lineup and a total solution for BYD's L3 autonomous vehicles. In addition, Baidu has ordered the first batch of BYD Qin Pro model, the second generation of its electronic car Qin, to undertake Apollo's self-driving demo road test. Upon completion of the test, the model will be available for sale on September 20. Furthermore, BYD has also become the 100th member of Baidu's Apollo open vehicle certification platform. Following the footstep of 360 Security Technology Inc, Pony.ai, and RoboSense, Baidu will also join BYD’s D++ open-source ecosystem, through which app developers have been given the right to access 66 controls and 341 sensors of Qin Pro to help BYD speed up the development of a universal applications platform for autonomous vehicles.
