Taiwanese Winmate recently announced that it will introduce the intelligent manufacturing into its tablet production, the Economic Daily News reported on July 16. This can help Winmate bring down the cost of manufacturing in order to compete with major rivals. Winmate has been able to churn out 25,000 tablets so far with an aim to increase to over 50,000 tablets by the end of this year. Ultimately, the company is set to produce 100,000 niche tablets. Given the relatively low profit margins and the increasing production costs, Winmate has to transform itself in two to three years and thus it has started to look for a new location to set up an intelligent factory. So far, the revenue from its factory located in New Taipei City is about NTD 180 to USD 200 million (USD 5.9 to USD 6.3 million; US$1=NT$30.6) as it can only conduct high variety, low-volume production. A new production base is required for Winmate to smarten up its manufacturing process in a large-scale. The company is expected to benefit from the new production capacity, starting in the fourth quarter of 2018.
