Powerchip to Build a New 12-inch Wafer Factory for USD 10 Billion

Powerchip will build a 12-inch new wafer factory in Tongluo Science Park, Taiwan, which is expected to begin construction in 2020, with the total investment amount of NT$300 billion (USD 10 billion, USD1= NT$30.1), according to United Daily News on May 11. Upon the completion of the construction, the maximum monthly production capacity of the new 12-inch fab will reach 100,000 wafers. At present, Powerchip has 12-inch and 8-inch fabs in Taiwan, with monthly production capacity of 100,000 and 70,000 wafers, respectively. In addition, Powerchip's subsidiary Maxchip is estimated to churn out 50,000 8-inch wafers per month, totaling the 8-inch wafer production capacity to 120,000 per month.
