Taiwanese PC maker Quanta, the major component supplier for Apple, recently signed a licensing agreement with AR Augmented-Reality) component maker Lumus to produce lenses for smart glasses, with an aim to expand the availability of AR glasses by 2019, United Daily News reported on December 6. According to their agreement, Quanta will produce lenses for Lumus which manufacture and embed multiple prisms into a single piece of glass. Owing to the cooperation, the price of AR glasses will be reduced to US$ 1,000 or less, compared to US$ 3,000 today. Moreover, should Apple succeed in launching its smart glasses in 2019, AR smart glasses will start to contribute a major share to Quanta's revenue in 2019.
