Qualcomm, OPPO Sign 3G/4G Patent License Agreement for China
August 03, 2016

Qualcomm and OPPO, a fast-growing Chinese smartphone vendor, announced a new 3G and 4G patent license agreement for China, according to the press release of Qualcomm on August 1. Based on the agreement, OPPO will pay royalties to Qualcomm in exchange for a patent license that allows OPPO to develop, manufacture, and sell 3G and 4G products, including WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), CDMA2000, TD-LTE (Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution), TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) and GSM (Global System for Mobile communication). The royalty payment is said to be consistent with the rectification proposal submitted by Qualcomm to the NDRC (China's National Development and Reform Commission). So far, more than 100 Chinese companies, including Huawei, Xiaomi, and ZTC, have signed similar license agreements with Qualcomm.
