Samsung to Invest US$15 Billion in 3D NAND Flash Memory Chips and OLED Panels
August 01, 2016

Samsung will invest 17 trillion KRW (US$15 billion; US$1=1135 KRW) in 3D NAND flash memory chips and OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) panels—both key components for smartphones—to consolidate its leading position, reported The Korean Herald on July 29. As the only company capable of mass producing 48-layer 3D NAND memory chips in the industry, Samsung plans to add more NAND chip production lines to its Korean factories in Gyeonggi Province this year. Meanwhile, Samsung also dominates the small and medium-sized OLED panel market, taking over 97% of the market. The company aims to raise OLED panel production capacity from 60,000 units per month to 75,000 units by 2016.
