Innolux Partners with Next Biometrics to Mass-Produce Flexible Fingerprint Sensors

Innolux and the Norway-based Next Biometrics jointly announced to invest in mass production capacity for the world's first flexible fingerprint sensors, according to the press release of Innolux Corporation on July 21. Flexible fingerprint sensors can be used to ensure the information security in many applications, including smart cards, smartphones, tablets, payment terminals, wearables, flash drives, USB tokens and smart home devices. Innolux estimated that about 100 million smart cards, credit cards or debit cards are being used in the world each year. The fingerprint sensors will be made at Innolux plants in Taiwan, with an initial monthly capacity of two million units in 2017 before quintupling to 10 million units in 2018.
