The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and the Taiwan Association of Information and Communication Standards (TAICS) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on June 16, which serves as the foundation for cooperation for both sides in future developments of international wireless charging standards. WPC was established in 2008 and is the world's largest international organization for formulating wireless charging industry standards. It is comprised of members from 230 international companies, including a Board of Management which consists of 24 companies including Taiwanese manufacturers HTC and Mediatek. "Taiwan has always played an important role in the global information and communication industry, which is why we cannot afford to be absent in the development of wireless charging technology," said Shen Jong-Chin, Vice Minister of MOEA (Ministry of Economic Affairs) at the ceremony. The MOEA is implementing the "A+ Industrial Technology Development Program" to help end users of wireless power and furniture makers in Taiwan to actively participate in and accelerate the development of domestic innovative business models through cross-industry integration and establishment of field experience areas for the public. Under the invitation of HTC, WPC hosted a four-day industry standards meetings in Taiwan. They also hosted a trade show and seminar to showcase the latest wireless charging technologies and components from around the world. "We have the opportunity to demonstrate the world's first 15-watt wireless charging module that supports tablets and high-end smartphones and the world's fastest wireless charging accessories," said Kuo Yao-Huang, Executive Secretary of BOST (Board of Science and Technology), Executive Yuan. In addition to components, the trade show also showcased several objects of daily use with built-in wireless charging functions, such as wireless-charged machine tools, kitchenware, furniture and handbags that support wireless charging for mobile phones. These technological applications are in fact highly conducive to people's daily lives.
