Taiwan Aims to Launch 5G Mobile Communications by 2019
May 03, 2016

Taiwan's Executive Yuan has confirmed the blueprint of 5G mobile communications at the National Information Communication Infrastructure Conference and aimed to launch the next generation mobile technology by 2019, reported Economic Daily News on May 3. Referring to Japan and Korea, the Executive Yuan envisioned three 5G mobile communications scenarios by 2019, including broadcasting high-definition and interactive mobile videos of a live concert to tens of thousands of receivers, low latency IoT (Internet of Things) technology in advanced smart manufacturing facilities, and the ability to use VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) on smartphones. 5G technology requirements include 10 times average end-user data rate, 100 times bandwidth per unit area, and 1,000 times the number of connected devices. Aside from technology deployment, Taiwan will also strive to foster talent, encourage international cooperation, initiate research on legislation, and improve spectrum allocation.
