AUO's 2016 CapEx to Reach US$1.38 Billion
March 16, 2016

The CapEx (capital expenditure) of AUO (AU Optronics Corporation) this year is anticipated to top NT$45 billion (US$1.38 billion; US$1=NT$32.7), up 34.7% year on year for the reason that some equipment spending originally planned for 2015 was delayed to 2016, reported Economic Daily News on March 11. The CapEx of AUO is mainly for the construction of a new 6G LTPS (Low Temperature Poly-silicon) production line in Kunshan, China. In the first phase, the 6G fab will produce 25,000 glass substrates per month  beginning from the second half this year. As the Chinese LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel industry is supported by the government, the Chinese vendors have continued to expand their production capacity, leading to excessive supply. Hence, AUO will aim to compete with Chinese counterparts on product value, rather than on production capacity, said the company.
