Apple Establishes First R&D Center in Taiwan
December 16, 2015
Apple has set up its first R&D center in Taiwan to develop advanced technologies including AMOLED (Active-matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) materials, micro LED, and fingerprint recognition, reported Commercial Times on December 16. The company submitted an application to build the lab on a site acquired from Qualcomm to Taiwan's government authority last year, with a registered capital of five million New Taiwan dollars. It is estimated that the R&D center will recruit over 100 engineers with most of them specializing in AMOLED materials and LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel technologies.
