Foxconn, Sharp LCD Panel JV to Boost Capacity
April 30, 2015

Sakai Display Product (SDP), a joint venture of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel between Foxconn and Sharp in Osaka, Japan, is going to ramp up capacity by fiscal year 2016, according to Nikkei on April 29. With total investment expected to reach 10 billion yen (US$84 million; US$1=118.948 yen), SDP will be able to process 81,000 glass substrates per month after the capacity expansion, up 12% from 72,000 now. SDP is the only one in Japan capable of making 60-inch or bigger panels. Foxconn took a stake in SDP from Sharp in July 2012. Both companies now hold 37.6% of SDP's stake.
