BOE announced a plan to build a 10.5G TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) fab for 40 billion RMB (US$6.45 billion; US$1=6.20 RMB) in Hefei, China, reported China Electronics News on April 21. The 10.5G production line will use 2940mm×3370mm glass substrates to produce 60-inch or larger TV panels, with a design capacity of 90,000 units per month. The facility is slated to break ground in the fourth quarter of 2015, and will begin operation in the third quarter of 2018.
In addition, Taiwan's Economic Daily News reported that BOE has signed an investment agreement with the Fuzhou government in China to build an 8.5G fab for around 30 million RMB (US$4.8 billion). The plant is expected to produce 120,000 pieces of glass substrates monthly.
