After the acquisition by Lenovo, Motorola Mobility will move its mobile phone production base into Lenovo's plant in Wuhan, China, with a plan to roll out the first batch of Motorola phones in mid-June, reported Xinhua News Agency on March 23. Motorola's investments, which will be realized in two stages, are estimated to total five billion RMB (US$805 million; US$1=6.214 RMB), including manufacturing, operation management, R&D, testing, and sales. In the first stage, the Wuhan plant will churn out 16 million phones this year, including four Motorola new smartphone products. In the second stage, Motorola will build a global R&D and testing center in Wuhan, with a design capacity of 80 million units per year. Motorola is expected to release 8,000 to 10,000 job opportunities in China by end-2017.
