China-based display maker BOE has announced a 22-billion RMB (US$3.5 billion; US$1 = 6.225 RMB) investment to build its first G6 production line in Chengdu, China, making LTPS (Low Temperature Poly-silicon)/AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays for high-end smartphones and mobile devices, reported China Securities Journal on December 26. The facility, which will begin operation in mid-2017, will use 1850mm×1500mm glass substrates, with a design capacity of 45,000 units per month. With smartphones packing larger displays and higher resolution, the company expects demand for LTPS/AMOLED displays to pick up in near future.
