JDI (Japan Display Inc.) plans to consolidate its production of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panels for smartphones by closing its Fukaya plant located in Saitama Prefecture in April 2016, reported Nikkei on October 16. The Fukaya plant is a 3rd-generation (G3) (glass size: 550mm x 670mm) facility in applications of LTPS (low temperature poly-silicon) technology. Production at the Fukaya plant will be taken over by the company's Mobara plant in Chiba Prefecture, which can churn out around 50,000 glass substrates per month, and workers at the plant will be reassigned to other facilities.
