LGD G8.5 Line Begins Mass Production in China
September 12, 2014

LG Display has launched mass production of its G8.5 line in Guangzhou, China, reported the Beijing News on September 11. The 28-billion RMB (US$4.6 billion; US$1=6.133 RMB) project, which was signed as early as 2009, is a joint venture of LGD, Guangzhou Development District, and Chinese TV maker Skyworth, owning 70%, 20%, and 10% stake, respectively. The G8.5 line will supply 4K2K UHD (Ultra High Definition) panels—currently made by Taiwanese and Japanese vendors—to Chinese LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TV vendors, including Skyworth, Konka, Changhong, and Haier, with panel size ranging from 42" to 49" and 55". China now has 23 LCD panel production lines, both in operation and under construction, of which nine are G8.5 lines, said the report.
