TWNIC (Taiwan Network Information Center) reported on August 20 that the number of people in Taiwan aged over 12 who had accessed the Internet—either via wired networks, Wi-Fi connection, or mobile Internet—during the January-June period reached around 17.6 million, or over 77% of the total population. Mobile Internet users, either using 3G or 3.5G technology, saw a continuous growth for three consecutive years to stand at 9.8 million in the first half of 2014, up over 6% year on year. It is observed that mobile Internet users as a percentage of overall Internet users in Taiwan has grown rapidly to reach 23.2% this year, only second to the 34.4% of ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) users. The survey was done with 3,134 effective samples during May 5 and May 26.
