MediaTek and Acer announced at the Computex Summit Forum that they will cooperate on developing cloud computing applications, specifically for wearables and IoT (Internet of Things), reported Economic Daily News on June 5. MediaTek will participate in Acer's cloud solution BYOC (Build Your Own Cloud), based on the Acer Open Platform, and will cooperate with MediaTek's clients on developing innovative technology and applications. MediaTek anticipates a huge opportunity for mid-tier smart devices in the so-called "Cloud 2.0" age around 2020, where over 20 billion to 50 billion devices around the world are expected to be connected to the cloud. MediaTek will also partner with digital imaging IC design house PixArt, Yahoo, Baidu, and China Mobile to build a comprehensive cloud computing ecosystem.
