Intel, Rockchip Join Hands in Android Tablet Chips

Intel and Chinese chipmaker Rockchip have forged partnership to expand the breadth of Intel-based solutions for entry-level Android tablets, which often cost less than US$100 in China and other emerging countries, according to Intel's news release on May 27. Under the agreement, the two companies will deliver a quad-core SoC (System on Chip) platform based on Intel's Atom processor core integrated with its 3G modem technology. The new platform is slated for mass production in the first half of 2015, and will be provide to each company's OEM and ODM clients. The deal does not involve any share purchase, investment, and acquisition.
