Three Russian Companies Win 3G Licenses

Russian MegaFon, Mobile TeleSystems, and VimpelCom have obtained 3G licenses from the Federal Communications Agency. Melamed is planning to roll out 3G services in big cities from the second half of 2007 and VimpelCom has stated that it will build a 3G network for US$350 million by 2008. However, SMARTS and Network Telecommunications Company, the other two participants of the bid application, were rejected in this contest.
