Korean Government to Relax Ban on Handset Subsidies
February 17, 2006
The Korean government recently decided to lift its ban on mobile phone subsidies starting in March 2006 and running until March 27, 2008. Subscribers who have been with the same service provider for more than 18 months will be eligible for the handset subsidies, and approximately 60% of all mobile phone subscribers fall into this category. The same conditions will apply to phone PDA subscribers, while operators will be allowed to give discounts of up to 40% for new subscribers of next-generation services such as Wibro, regardless of how long these subscribers have been with the same service provider.
