Abstract
The worldwide WiMAX development saw significant progress in 2008, with various large-scale WiMAX deployment projects put into operation and the overall WiMAX subscriber base recording exponential growth. The continuing network deployment is expected to drive the demand for WiMAX CPE, and Taiwanese makers, a major force in the global WiMAX industry supply chain, are expected to play a crucial role in CPE price drops. Gemtek, Foxconn, ZyXEL, and USI combined account for about 90% of the overall Taiwanese WiMAX shipment volume, and they mainly adopt chipset solutions provided by Intel, Beceem, and Sequans. This research analyzes the three major chipset suppliers' product development, providing insight into the future development trends of mobile WiMAX chipsets and application products.
