Abstract

The Chinese home appliances industry, mainly comprising of refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines and LCD TVs, continued to witness subdued growth in April 2016, especially air conditioners which dipped 11.3% year-on-year. The steeper decline of air conditioners was attributed mainly to a considerable fall in the domestic market demand. Meanwhile, washing machines and refrigerators witnessed a mild year-on-year decline of 0.5% and 2.8%, respectively. Furthermore, LCD TV export growth hit over 25% year-on-year. This was owing to a significant increase in exports from the top 5 Chinese brands, namely TLC, Hisense, Skyworth, Changhong and Konka, with a total shipment volume of 2.1 million units, which represents a 12.1% year-on-year.
