Low-price and Android OS Smartphones' Global Share Continuing on the Rise: MIC

It is forecast market volume of Android smartphones will reach 1.27 billion units, with a share of 84.7%, in 2016, according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a Taipei-based IT research institute. "Most of smartphones priced at USD300 or less run on Android. The dominance of Android OS in the smartphone market will remain unchallenged and the future of Android will continue to be promising," says Edward Lin, Senior Industry Analyst and Deputy Director with MIC.

"Market volume of iOS smartphones is forecast to top around 205 million units in the 2016, declining 13.7% year-on-year. Though the market share of iOS is declining, it is likely to maintain its market position in the next two to three years, backed by its high brand awareness and design -driven innovation," Lin added.
