Bosch recently announced that the company will bring its automated valet parking system - jointly developed with Daimler AG - into Taiwan, Autonet.com reported on May 23. With over 70% of the population living in urban areas and having problem to search for a parking spot, Taiwan has been an optimal country to introduce such system to facilitate community parking and automatic valet parking. Bosch argued that automated valet parking is an important milestone on the road to autonomous driving as it allows cars, with or without drivers behind the wheel, to be parked into assigned spots automatically via a smartphone app. With sensors and Lidar systems installed in parking lots, when drivers leave their vehicles in a drop-off area of the parking lot, vehicles will be guided to assigned spots automatically to improve parking-space utilization by about 20%. Other than the automated valet parking system, Bosch will also introduce Industry 4.0 to help Taiwan update the industry by establishing a smart factory to integrate IoT (Internet of Things), Big Data, and smart sensing technology such as MEMS (Micro-Electromechanical Systems).
