Foxconn to Delay Mass Production of 10.5G Panel Plant in Guangzhou Until 2020, Building New Factory in Nanjing and Wisconsin
October 06, 2017

With a scale of 1 trillion Yen (USD8.8 billion; USD1 = 113 Yen), Foxconn's 10.5G panel line jointly set up with Sharp in Guangzhou is likely to delay its mass production until 2020 instead of 2019 as originally planned, United Evening News reported on September 29. This is mainly attributed to the fact that Foxconn is yet to place orders for materials used in LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel manufacturing. Thus, the commercialization of the Foxconn-Sharp production line is slated to begin in the second half of 2020. Chinese BOE is anticipated to be one step ahead by launching the world's first 10.5G line dedicated to 65" TV panel manufacturing in March 2018.
Meanwhile, Foxconn and the municipal government of Nanjing have entered an agreement to jointly build a smartphone plant for 37.5 billion RMB (USD5.65 billion; USD1 = 6.64 RMB), according to a China Tech News report. Other than smartphones, the Nanjing plant will also produce LCD TVs. Besides, it is also set to build a new LCD panel factory in Wisconsin, the United States, for USD 10 billion with the local government granting USD 3 billion in tax breaks.
