Taiwan's Digital Switchover to Complete by End of 2017
August 11, 2017

Taiwanese NCC (National Communications Commission) recently announced that there were about 5.24 million households receiving analog broadcasting services across Taiwan as of June 30, 5.14 million or 98% of which have switched to digital TV services, Economic Daily News reported on August 10. The 100% digital switchover is slated to complete by the end of 2017. Five MSOs (Multiple-System Operators) are expected to each spend NT$7.5 billion (USD246.7 million; USD1=NT$30.4) on purchasing STBs (Set Top Boxes). Following the steps of Hsinchu City, Chiayi County/City, and Tainan City, Taipei is set to complete the digital switchover by the end of November this year. The digital switchover will help MSOs to spare more bandwidths to provide faster online speeds of up to 1 Gbps.
