TSMC Wins Qualcomm's 7nm-Chip Order
June 15, 2017

TSMC recently announced that it has succeeded in winning an order to supply 7nm chips for Qualcomm, reported Economic Daily News on June 13. Pursuant to the agreement, TSMC will produce 7nm chips for Qualcomm to launch at the end of this year. TSMC's advanced assembly technology is boasted to make Apple's mobile devices lighter and thinner. In the previous competition with TSMC, Samsung secured Qualcomm's 10nm-chip order which makes up nearly 40% of its total foundry revenue. Despite the delay in 7nm chip development, Samsung has released 8nm process technology and aims to introduce 5nm and 4nm process technology in 2019 and 2020, respectively. On top of that, the company plans to start mass producing 7nm chips for its new Galaxy Note smartphones that are slated to hit the market in 2018.
