Macronix, Taiwanese IDM (Integrated Device Manufacturer) of non-volatile memory, announced that it has entered into a cooperation agreement with STMicro to combine its ultra-low power flash memory with STMicro's new microcontroller, reported Economic Daily News on April 24. Claimed to have the industry's smallest package so far, Macronix's solution has benefits of longer battery life and better efficiency and is manufactured using its own 75nm technology node. With the small footprint, the combined solution is the ideal choice for portable small devices such as wearables, industrial sensors, home automation, and audio and metering systems, according to the same source.
