Taiwan's NCC to Release 4G Frequency Bandwidths for the Third Time
April 20, 2017

Taiwan's NCC (National Communications Commission) is set to release more frequency bands between 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz for 4G through a public auction in mid-October, reported Economic Daily News on April 20. The bands were originally allocated for 3G services and were due to expire in 2018. This would be the third auction for 4G telecom operators who require these bandwidths to enlarge their capacity in a bid to meet dramatically increasing demand for data transmission. The first one was in 2014 and succeeded in generating NTD 118.7 billion (USD 3.9 billion) in revenue. In 2015, the second auction took place and gathered NTD27.95 billion (USD922.4 million) in revenue. Following the public auction in mid-October this year, the auction is scheduled to complete at the end of November, and the licenses will be released in December, according to the same source.
