Just two day after its launch, there were already 415,000 credit cards from 7 banks supporting Apple Pay in Taiwan, reported United Daily News on April 6. Taiwan marks the 14th Apply Pay-ready country. Taiwanese consumers can make Apple Pay purchases with their MasterCard and Visa card issued by 7 banks: Taishin International Bank, Taipei Fub on Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Cathay United Bank, CTBC Banks, E.Sun Bank, and Union Bank of Taiwan. Businesses and retailers having Apple Pay-ready NFC readers available are the Breeze Center, Far Eastern Department Stores, Sogo, Carrefour, and PXMart. Additionally, Apple Pay will be used at FamilyMarts throughout Taiwan, though only for users with Taishin International Bank cards. By contrast, the number of credit cards supporting Taiwan's homegrown mobile payment system HCE (Host Card Emulation) that was launched seven months ago is merely 33,000.
