EasyCard Corporation to Join Hands with Five Taiwanese Telecom Operators for Mobile Payment

Taiwan's contactless smartcard system provider EasyCard Corporation announced that it will team up with five local telecom operators to jointly expand presence in mobile payment industry while echoing the government's initiative in building an Asia Silicon Valley, reported United Daily News on March 15. Under the partnership, they will consolidate the easy card, eWallet, and ID (Identification) cards into a mobile platform. This allows their users can use own smartphone to pay transportation fees, parking fees when exiting the carpark, restaurant bills, and movie tickets, and gain access to the office. With the mobile payment market share in Taiwan reaching nearly 30% by the end of 2016, the government is set to support all efforts to make the share grow to over 52% and Taiwan's global market share in mobile payment to 5% by 2020. Five local telecom operators are Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile Telecom, Far EasTone Telecom, Asia Pacific Telecom, and T Star. Government representatives are agencies of Taiwan's Executive Yuan, including FSC (Financial Supervisory Commission), National Development Council, and NCC (National Communications Commission).
