Sharp to Reduce Smartphone LCD Panel Production
January 21, 2015

Sharp plans to slash output of IGZO (Indium-Gallium-Zinc Oxide) panels at its Kameyama No. 2 plant in Mie Prefecture by around 40%, compared to the end of December 2014, due to flagging sales to Chinese smartphone vendors, reported Nikkei on January 21. The production capacity of the plant will be scaled down from 1,200 glass substrates per day to 700 to 800 substrates for now, with part of the capacity being shifted to make TV panels. The duration of the capacity adjustment will depend on sales and inventory levels of small and medium-sized LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panels.
